On March 10, 2010, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Drug Safety Communication regarding oral bisphosphonates and atypical subtrochanteric femur fractures. The FDA is reviewing this issue along with other experts, including the members of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) Subtrochanteric Femoral Fracture Task Force.

JBMR Editor-in-Chief Thomas L. Clemens is pleased to announce that the first-ever JBMR “Virtual Issues” are now available. Virtual Issues are topic-specific or thematic collections of papers previously published in the JBMR, made available online only. The Journal’s first Virtual Issues are collections of Perspectives (mini-reviews) published over the past 18 months.

The ASBMR held its inaugural Meet-the-Professor (MTP) webinar on Thursday, December 3. ASBMR member Dr. Elizabeth Shane presented on the topic of how to diagnose, evaluate and manage osteoporosis in premenopausal women.

ASBMR has entered into a new publishing arrangement under which the production of the JBMR and other business matters are managed by Wiley-Blackwell while the Society continues with sole responsibility for editorial matters. Wiley has also assumed business responsibilities for the Primer.
